About the ParishEarliest Settlement‘Blunsdon’ – the hill belonging to Blunt. Rising from the mists above the forests and marshes on the plain to Castle Hill, a univallate Iron Age fort, where our earliest ancestors fortified and built a settlement. Roman InfluenceMuch later the Romans drove their Ermine Street out of Corinium Dobunnorum (Cirencester) towards Durocornovium (Wanborough) and on towards Venta Bulgarum (Winchester) in the south and Calleva Atrebatum (Silchester) in the east. This crossed the ancient byway, Lady Lane/Broadbush, now more commonly recognised as the B4019. A Thriving and Growing CommunityThe Parish of Blunsdon St Andrew is one of the fastest growing in the Borough of Swindon. At the 2001 Census. 2250 dwellings were registered. This number is growing at the staggering rate of around one and a half dwellings a day! There are not many Parishes that grow at that rate so there is a lot for us to do! The parish boundaries, showing the extent of the parish and its boundaries are available in the following map. Please follow the link to Parish Boundaries Map. ChurchesThere are 5 Churches in the Parish - St Andrews, on Blunsdon Ridge, - The Methodist Church, the Baptist Church and St Leonard's in Broad Blunsdon and Abbey Meads Church of Christ the Servant.
